Feeling. Relaxed. Can you believe it? Usually the third week of this month-long challenge has me thinking,

“Why did I sign up for this AGAIN?”

But that feeling hasn’t hit me yet. Thank goodness. I am ahead by three. I planned on taking a night off. But here it is 12:02 am, and I still need to post. So much for my lofty dream of climbing into bed early and watching a movie.

It was a productive day, and that’s a good thing!

Day 19 Of 30

I was so lucky with the dots on the vase. Perfectly imperfect. Don’t know how I managed it, but I love the mix of small and large, and fading. Not so lucky with the texture in the Shiraz. Some of the dots show through, and that’s fine.  I pressed a piece of gauze into the wet paint to create pattern. Didn’t work as well as I hoped. The paint had already dried too much. It’s there, but I am not sure you can see it well enough on the screen.

I goofed and forgot to add the second color to the petals on the left bloom. I didn’t notice until I scanned it, which meant the head was already done and dry. Another goof, well, just a decision really. I think I need to darken some of the pencil lines on the petals. But I had to make enough adjustments to get the colors showing true to life, that it wasn’t worth it time wise to start over. I may feel differently tomorrow.

Sad news to share with you. We’ve known for months, but it still was a shock. Lost the view of Granite Mountain out back.

Going…

Going…

Gone.

Here is what it looked like before the building started.

Only 12 more days left. How does that sound to you, 30 in 30 artists? Doable? Or daunting? I still have plenty of ideas. More palette knife practice, some watercolor. Nope, the ideas haven’t dried up yet. No problem there.

I have however, fallen behind on my blog visits and pinning pieces to my challenge board. I was behind to start. Caught up nicely, and fell behind again. Oh well. I did manage to paint a couple of extra pieces today. Feel good about that. Today’s painting is not showing nearly as pretty as it is in person.

Over 1000 Artists worldwide are taking part in Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings In 30 Days Challenge. This is her ninth biannual event. I missed the first one, but have participated in each since then. The only goal is to paint every day. Doesn’t have to be good, or even finished.

This was painted with a palette knife, I used a brush for the stems.

Day 16 – No Doubt

Tried something new. Well, sort of new. I have tried before. Painting with a palette knife. Turned out so bad, I kept adding splatter to cover up the yuck. It was still awful, so I added some texture to the table. Trying to bring the yuck together cohesively.

I am cringing. But yes, I am actually going to post this palette knife failure. When I scanned it, I made a last-ditch effort to save it. I added a digital center to the top bloom. I don’t think it made a bit of difference. You can see the original below.
