Just had fun with this. Tried the plastic wrap technique, but I think I laid the paint on too thick. None of the first layer, green, shows through. I rubbed in indigo, turquoise and clay afterwards. I scratched into the wet white, and green is visible. Just not in the scan.

I am happy with this. Trying to decide if it is too plain. If I need some sort of pattern. And do you think I need to add the stem to the bloom on the left? In my mind that stem is curved, and sitting behind the other flower. Oh I know, shadow on the vase?

Here is the texture from the plastic wrap. Sort of like finger prints.

Textured paint.

Giveaway

I tossed slips of paper, numbered 1 – 7 into a bowl. Day #4 was chosen, the 25th. And from day 25, the 7th comment was chosen. (Again, numbered slips of paper in a bowl.) I apologize for not thinking to take photos. Truth be told, painting a day ahead, and everything going on this month has me discombobulated. I did the drawings last-minute.

I am so grateful for your continued support and friendship. Leslie’s challenge is all about building the daily painting habit, having fun and experimentation. What brings me back year after year, is your friendship and fellowship. True blessings in my life!

So pleased to share my art with you daily, and with the weekly giveaway gifts.

Congratulations Carol Edan!

Let me know which of these you would like, and I will get it in the mail to you.

Mingus

We started the day dark and wonderfully dreary.
Mingus stayed undercover.
Right outside my window, snowballs were at the ready.

Where's Mingus?

Snowballs.

By 2 pm, the sky had cleared.
Late in the afternoon I saw the changing colors, and took these photos.
All within 30 minutes or so. Mingus still has a hint of snow.

A Good Start. And not far from done. Layers. Acrylic below, watercolor on top.

Still can’t believe how fast week three went by. And here we are in the final countdown. I read that Pic Monkey is doing a revamp. Still in Beta testing so no difference yet.

DAY 26

I know I said I wouldn’t. All votes were for Day 26 being done. I took Val’s advice, and darkened the pot. But it really looks so much better in person. No harsh edges, the colors blend together nicely. Not sure if it helped to show roundness, but I do like it better. I think I went more intense, instead of darker.

I also softened some of the hard edges in the greens. Just a few areas. I added a bit more of the Sunkissed Peach to the background. Just top right, bottom left and above the pot. I reinforced the turquoise top left and bottom left. I laid the color down, then patted it off. And really, all these additions are soft and not as different from the WIP as they seem here.

Still working on the Aloe. The mid tones are not as dark as they seem here, but I am going to soften those a bit. The first layers, see below, are acrylics. I applied them with a texture sheet, the pattern, and a brayer, and a brush. The turquoise and kiwi with a brayer, for an uneven cover. The clay with a brush, to fill in the white areas that remained uncovered.

I was really tempted to stop right there. Maybe add some line work. Or a messy dab of shariz (merlot). But I knew it wasn’t done.

HA! I just realized it looks like the back-end of a carrot. I painted a carrot butt.

I was going for one of those pots that sits at an angle.

Hmm. So, to do list:

  • Tone down that neon yellow where-did-it-come-from green.
  • Add some life to the washed out, faded, bland background.
  • Maybe add more warmth to the pot.

This is mostly acrylics. The sap green is watercolor. The turquoise outline and the clay crayon marks on the pot are oil pastel.
