This month I worked in watercolor, and used digital collage to add patterns & texture details to each piece. I concentrated on florals and experimented with abstracts.

I used the Angora Opaque Watercolor, Skin Tone set. Some are opaque (gouache), some are transparent watercolor. They are highly pigmented, with rich hues and easy workability. They are non toxic, with an excellent lightfast rating. Crafted in Germany.

To be honest, my goal was to use up the set, so I could justify buying a new one. 😂

It’s easy to see what colors I use, and which ones I haven’t.

Looking through my blog gallery for these images, I see that I purchased this in May of last year, so they’ve lasted a long time. Worth the investment. Good to know!

I really struggled with abstracts this month. I found videos by Denise Love. Some of her shorts, and I really like her intuitive style. I posted ten abstracts. But for each of those, I painted three to five others before I had something I could work with. I will keep trying though. 😂

Below are a few close-ups to see more details.
You can see them all in more detail on my Instagram profile.

I apologize for falling behind on posting here on the blog. I fell behind early in the month, and it took awhile to get back in the flow. I really appreciate having you follow along, and sharing your insights and ideas. Thank you!

Tomorrow I will share the collage of all the art created this month, as well as my favorites. And soon after, the group art gallery.

Happy creating to you!

Speckled Xander Blue For Spoonflower

Our Spoonflower assignment this week is a Monochrome Duvet. Last week I designed a warm pink duvet. Light and soft. This week I went dark. Referencing classic Chinese elements, with modern simplicity. Rows of uneven “egg” dots add interest and visual texture.

The collection includes variations of the main design. A nature inspired print, stripes, and solids all compliment one another.

Voting is now open, until the 29th. Thanks so much for taking the time to look. 🙂

What other colors would you suggest for this design? Neutrals? Greens? Black and white? Maybe a red white and blue version? I appreciate your opinions. I have a quilting friend who said she could happily put this to use for that purpose. What are your favorite colors for bedding?

Thanks so much to all of you who took time from your busy day, to place a vote. 🙂 I’m grateful.

The countdown begins soon!

Our 30-Day Creative Gathering is an informal gathering of creators. Just paint each day in September. Or sketch, or take a photo. Do you crochet? Work with wood? We welcome all levels, all mediums.

Creating each day does not have to mean completing a finished piece. Work in progress is welcome! You can choose to follow a theme, experiment with new tools, use a new palette. Or not. At the end of the month, each artist will create a collage of their works. If you have not done that before, we can help.

Gathering together gives us the opportunity
to connect with others,
make new friends,
and cheer each other on.

Help us spread the word!
It’s OK to start late.
It’s OK to participate even if you will not be able to do all 30 days.
Hope to see you there!

Wishing you JOY!

Harley’s Flush On Spoonflower

Hello!

It’s raining and dark and chilly. What a great day!

I fell in love with this palette. The colors are from a brand of interior house paint. A southwest collection. That light greyish pink is almost the same color I used on my vanity table.

I intended to enter the second version, with the softer background. Then I viewed the patterns on the Spoonflower duvet. I like how the white adds a subtle pop of light. Everything is subtle about this simple harlequin design.

Tween Spirit Bedding was our assignment. The design brief called for mid-tone color palettes. Calming. Some suggestions were curves & arches, & minimalist illustrations. I softened these diamonds with curved corners.

I thought the linen texture (above) was going to be my entry. But it is too subtle in the bedding sample that will be seen in voting. I am also working on a linear idea. With the lines a slightly darker shade of each color. I’m curious to know what you think.

I am always thankful for your support. Voting is now open, until the 22nd. From what I have seen in one of the Spoonflower Facebook groups, there are lots of cute designs. But also many that are more universally usable in home décor applications.

The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house. All that cold, cold, wet day.
