World Watercolor Month 2023

For me, July started slow. Or maybe it was just me feeling like a sloth from the heat. Chug, chug, chug, then whoosh! I was in the mood for flowers this month. Still, I did manage to change it up here and there. I made an effort to use scraps, small bits of paper. And I had fun with those. The largest I worked this month was 5 x 5 inches. That felt like the perfect size for a daily painting.

I found a terrific video about painting wet on wet cats. Furballs. She also does birds, dragonflies and flowers that look really fun. I have since done about a dozen furry critters, that may turn up in a pattern soon. I stopped my watercolor month at 30. Monday was crammed, and I decided to cut myself some slack. I even snuck in a short nap. Actually, it snuck up on me. 🥴

August means starting my planning for the September 30-Day Creative Gathering. What was it Cathy (comic strip) would say? ACK! 😲😄

✨✨ Coming soon! Our ninth gathering! Wowzers! ✨✨

Falling leaves placed at #1497 of 1723 with 15 votes. I knew it would not place well when I voted and saw all of the fabulous florals. So gorgeous! But I am happy with this design and will do a few more colorways.

Thanks so much for following along with me this month. It went by fast, didn’t it? And thank you for taking the time to vote on Falling Leaves! I know it is a chore.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🙂

Sheila, I LOVED the short video about painting cats in a simplistic manner. Everyone I know is always trying to paint more loosely. Thanks for sharing. And, I think that is why I LOVE your paintings and designs. You employ simplicity and all of your work always produces joy in me!! Thank you!!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Donna. I really like her style. 🙂
Thank you for your sincere compliment. I so often wish I could be more of a fine artist, with talent like your own.
A “real” artist. It is a blessing, to hear my paintings bring you joy. Thank you. 🙂

That cat is so cute! I admit to liking your cactus pieces more than the flowers – the way you blend the colours is great and the paintings are always so bright and clean. It is hard to believe we only have a month before the next Creative Gathering. I have no idea what I will be doing – guess I will wing it.

I think I had more fun with those, Val. Or… I got more in the zone. They take more time, and I slow down. They are more meditative for me.
So glad to hear you will be joining us again, Val! I always look forward to seeing your dailies! xoxo

As Simon & Garfunkel so well put it:

    July
    she must fly
    and give no warning
    of her flight.

Love your final week of World Watercolor Month 2023—wet on wet fur ball cat!—and your artful eye-appealing display of images. Day 25 reads as a bit of sleight of hand to my eyes; it’s true to prickly pear cactus in its arid, semi-arid, and drought-prone habitat but simultaneously gives the refreshing icy appearance of snowfall (perfect antidote painting to the intense heat out your way!).

Haha! I have not thought of that in years, Dotty. Thanks so much for reminding me. 🙂
I love your take on the prickly pear. I thought of rain, when I saw it on the monitor.
But I think you are right. Snow. 🙂
      Happy creating to you! xoxo

I love all of your flowers, but for me the standout is Prickly Pear, and runner-up is the cute furry kitty. 🙂 Congrats on working diligently in spite of the sizzling heat and doldrums! Instead I took many siestas. 🙂

I like your plan, Teresa! Siestas are a very good thing, in my book. 🙂
Stay cool, and well rested. 🙂 xoxo
