I was in a hurry and discombobulated the day this was created. I thought I was ahead, and had my last week complete. But when I counted again, I was three short! What? How?  So I started on four pieces, and this is one of them.

I had some interesting drips as the first layer on this. But then I over poured onto another piece, and had to redistribute the color. That color, clay, obliterated the drips. OK, so what now?

With the palette knife I spread paint, made lines going this way and that. Spread more paint. Made a mess in my opinion. Trying not to panic, I made more lines with an indigo, white mix. Bummed when huge blobs occurred.

I digitally cropped from all sides, and felt better, less mess. Almost cropped out the blue on the bottom, but testing in increments, I saw that a shoreline was there. And then a map. Then a starting point and destination. All righty then. Named it far for the lines leading into the distance.

So not me, this composition. Major step out of the comfort zone!

I was really happy with how this canvas turned out. I had the idea to add more color, and the Ocotillo came to mind.  I used Derwent Inktense watercolor pencil (shiraz), and I like how the watercolor highlights the canvas texture. Keep it simple Sheila.

Long day. Productive, thank goodness. So busy painting away, I couldn’t even remember yesterday’s post. Going a little 30 in 30 loony. Anyone else?

This is acrylics, Caran d’Ache Neocolor Crayons, and watercolor pencils. I started by making marks, then painted over them. Like a lasagna, I repeated those layers three or four times. Using a palette knife, I spread the paint, and sometimes scratched into it. The light layer you see, took a few spritz of water, before I continued to scrape most of that layer off.

I went over some of the linear marks, and used a wet brush to activate the color. I left some of the previous marks untouched, just hints under the layer of scraped paint.  I added more venetian red in areas, and used water to move the color there as well.

I had no idea what to do at that point. Turned the paper and looked at it from each angle. Decided to take a piece of crumpled plastic wrap and use it like a sponge to apply paint. I have sponges, but the wrap had already been used and was next to me on the desk. I applied several tints of the same color.

Maybe this could use something more, but I like it.
