Blossoms in Blue

Postcard #1 is complete. I think. I will look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. I did some subtractive painting, adding spots of yellow, and a light wash of white acrylic. Next I scraped away some of the white wash to show the yellow, and create some grassy texture.

Added some yellow, and a light wash of white. Scraped and scratched the wash.

The stems were already there. They were part of the first blue layers. I added the flower center, some petal detail on the smaller blooms, and scribbled in some grass. Two blue splatters look like distant flowers, and one of them even has a stem. Pure luck that.

Adding details.

OK, I know this is a bit blurry. I couldn’t get a decent shot, and I was anxious to see how it would scan. I need to seal it, so I experimented and used Saran wrap to cover the scanner bed. (You can see the wrinkles.)

I used oil pastel to add more yellow, and bits of pink and purple. I added nupastel to add more white, and some sky blue, I softened some with a Q-tip, and left some marks rough. I tried to bring back some of the white crayon marks that were in the under painting.

Maybe I will add more yellow. Or more white. White splatters?

I am not thrilled with where the two stems are meeting. I tried to bring one stem forward by making it brighter. Didn’t quite work. I need to darken the background a bit I think.

What do you think? I would value any opinions on how I can improve this. It may not be the one I send in to the Gallery, but I do really like it. On to create another…

I know I have been quiet for a while, but now you can see why. I have been busy adding to my shop on Zazzle.com. I am so excited to share these with you!

I never would have thought of postcards as an outlet for my art. I owe that inspiration to Kat Sloma and her Liberate Your Art event. There is still time to join this year, for anyone interested. It is free, and FUN!

If you want to join, I will even share my postcard layout for the back with you to make your own. Just comment with your email, and I will send you the PDF. I will delete your email before publishing the comment. Sorry, I know, slacker. I should have the PDF available as a link. Maybe I can get to that tomorrow.

Ok, off to make chicken tortilla soup, and roast some potato’s for dinner tonight and tomorrow.

Have a super day everyone. Thanks for reading this, and please feel free to share it.

Happy creating to you!

They won’t go out until Monday, but I have finished preparing my postcards for Kat Sloma’s exchange. I finished decorating the envelope today. This is the fourth year for the exchange.

There is still time to take part if you are interested. You can see art from the previous exchanges, and get all the details here for Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art Postcard Exchange. She has two great video’s of all the participants art.

It is so much fun getting everything ready for this event. But the real fun will start in about a month, when I start receiving postcards from fellow artists and photographers.

I will be sharing the postcards I receive as they come in, it will be like Christmas in March! I hope you will join me, you can sign up to receive my posts by email. (To the right, under my photo.)

Join me in this international exchange! You will receive five postcards from around the world, and one from Kat Sloma. Kat has a goal to reach 250 participants this year. Be one! You can order printed postcards with your art, or you can make your own. If you decide to make your own, comment on this post, and I will send you my template for the back of the postcards. Send your art out into the world!

I have made new friends each year in this exchange, and that is really the best part. There are always “extra” swap requests on the Facebook page too. I included extras for the volunteers who help her as well.

Stay tuned!

Enjoy your Sunday, and happy creating to you!
