This is a Mexican Fencepost cactus. Also called an Organ Pipe or Organo. I like that one. It is shaped like a star from the top. The spines are along the edges, they are short and give the appearance of “hand-stitching”. Dressed and ready for the ball! Work in progress. Nothing is working here. Oops, hehe.

Here’s a winner though. Saved by the sunset!

It was so cool Dave, the way the light was focused like that. It didn’t last long at all. Thanks for visiting 🙂

Not sure where you are headed with this one but I think you have some good things happening. The pot is great – good colour and texture. I also like the blending in the cactus and although I like the sky I guess a blue wash will make it more distinct. I look forward to seeing what you do with this.

Thank you Val 🙂 Yes, I like the blending too, a happy accident. That technique always is 🙂 I think if I add more color to the background, one more layer, it will help quite a bit 😉

Sheila, I’m curious: if ‘nothing is working here’ do you consider this a WIP that you will return to? or do you consider it a study from which you will move on? or are you on the fencepost?!

Haha, Thanks for the giggle Dotty 🙂 I am going to rework it. There is not enough contrast, I think that is what is missing. If I can’t “fix” it, I may do another. It was fun working on it, even if it did not turn out as hoped.
