I am still intrigued by this sparse style. It feels familiar to me. Reminds me of some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s work. Not my painting. The style.

There are a couple of things I would change about this. I did not realize I was painting with gloss navy blue. Sealing the piece would take care of that. And I did not add any line work.  That might help. Or shading to show a rise on the front range.

There is both blue and turquoise in the sky, on this screen it is not showing at all unfortunately. Hope you can see it on yours. I think the sky came out rather nice.

Maybe it is a work in progress. Not unhappy with it. Taking a second look, those few details stand out. Fixable!

Is it really the 14th already?
Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Oh I am glad Val. That the blue is showing. Maybe that is what it is, That part of O’Keeffe that was classic. 😉 Happy day to you Val 🙂

I can see why you like the sparse look, Sheila! It has a unique quality to it. And boy, holding those babies made me lose a few days- I missed a few paintings of yours! Your “glow” in that experimental watercolor is really beautiful. That area has so much depth. And the bouquet of flowers (#12? )may be my all time favorite!

The gloss blue offers a fascinating kind of contrast within this minimalist context, Sheila. I might not be so quick to change it. I’m going to put in a vote for you to see how not-your-style you can keep this. Perhaps minimal changes to highlight its graphic style. I think you could have some fun playing with this, seeking ways to keep the ‘blocks’ of color.

No matter what, love what you’ve played with here, and will be eager to see what you decide. Have fun!

Interesting Dotty, thanks 😉 Thinking on this. Everyone has given me terrific ideas on this one 🙂 Wonderful, how such a “simple” piece can stir up so much conversation 🙂

I think there’s something in the human brain that seeks calmness and this style of painting appeals to that part. It brings tranquility. I do see the lovely variations of blue in the sky. It is possible that a bit of variation in the foreground hill would break it up a bit because our eye stops there for a little longer than necessary before we seek the background and sky.

Thank you Laurelle. There is a bit of the original color, before I muted it, but the difference is too slight I think. 🙂
