Had fun with this. The vase has two textures, but the polka dots are not showing as well as they do in person. The green is also showing darker here. It is really very pretty.

I masked off the bottom half, and the right side. Next I splattered paint. The side looks as if it wasn’t masked. Oh well. I’m thinking that it looks wonky, with an obvious splatter line. So I may go back in and add one flick to the bottom half, on the left. Another option is to go back in digitally, and remove some of the splatters. Still thinking on it.

Nelvia asked what colors I am using. Craft paint for this one. Here’s the list:

Anita’s – Light Coral, Buttered Yam, Terra Cotta, Dark Plum, Deep Celery,
Craft Smart – Bisque
Apple Barrel – Sunkissed Peach
Americana – Cranberry Wine, Natural Buff

Bisque is my favorite white. It is soft, not too white. And not warm at all, like ivory. I only have one bottle. Couldn’t find it in stock anywhere. I also had a hard time finding my favorite Shiraz in these acrylics. I am mixing the plum and wine to get  the color I want. Sunkissed peach is a flesh tone. I like using it in place of white, and mixing in the yam or peach. In day 9, it looks more pink due to the wine undercoat.

Site updates have been done. Might be a few more left. I am crossing my fingers that this post is delivered to your inbox tomorrow. Have an awesome weekend!

Started this after nine tonight. After painting most of the day. Just over five hours of work on five small pieces, and still not one I would call finished. But I suppose I am closer to getting ahead than if I hadn’t worked, right?

Thought about just posting the WIP’s. But then I really would  not be ahead. Besides, we had a sweet sunset. And I had paper at the ready. This group of hills sits north-east of us. It is really  separate peaks. Our site makes them look like a small, connected grouping.

There were no visible clouds in the sky. When the sun lowered enough, the entire sky became salmon, with hints of purple streaks.

4 x 4 WIP’s

I had three favorites at the start of the session. Two soon became least favorites. Always the way right? I worked one canvas at a time, and while it was drying, went on to the next. I used mostly palette knives, and I am happy for the practice. Later I used a large brush. I confess, I covered up the two disasters.

4 x 4 WIP #1

4 x 4 WIP #1

For #1 I had in mind a garden view. Abstracted. I soon realized that my trying to make it into something specific was not working.  For #2, I just added colors, no intention.  The white shapes made me think of leaves. The brush I used has long since been damaged. Glue or paint has dried in the bristles, creating a gap in the middle. The brush is great for spreading large amounts of paint. Won’t be tossing it anytime soon.

Pretty much decided #1 is a do over. I like the movement, and the colors in #2. But to me it is just a bunch of blobs.  There is no story, or feeling, and no focal point. It is just not finished yet.

Happy daily creating to you! Thanks so much for visiting, hearing from you keeps me going!

Day 9 – The Hills Are Alive

First try of what I am sure will be many. Fairly happy with this, I like the sky. But I have an even number of divisions on each mountain. And matching to boot (four and four). I am sure that breaks a rule or two.

I am happy that I managed to stay light handed, and did not overwork. Think it could use a bit more visual interest. I was going to add a stand of trees at the base, but worried I would get the perspective wrong, so I left it alone. Next time.

I painted from life, not plein air, looking through my window. A mistake because the clouds changed the light every time I looked up. A reminder of why I admire plein air artists.

I worked for a bit reorganizing my work space. I will share photos when It is done. My last “studio” was in the corner of the room I had everything within reach, but most of it was semi-hidden from view. My desk is in front of the window here, and I don’t want to block the view or the light. It will take some time.
