I have kept my posts short. Less to replace if the server went down again. But new server now, and all should be well. Fingers crossed. Updates need to be redone, and CAPTCHA reinstalled. But there are a few more tweaks that need attention first. Don’t ask me what exactly, because I have no idea. Hoping to have that taken care of soon, and have the emails working again.

Randy my tech man knows. That is all that matters. He mentioned to me that yesterday’s piece reminded him of The Lorax.  You know, Dr. Seuss. Fluffy lollypop trees.  Made me laugh. They do look like wonky cartoon trees.

Today’s title came to me when I started drawing the stems. The bloom swirls make me think of long hair, pulled up in a bun.  And I can imagine them standing there spreading garden gossip.

Week one is done! Time flew by.

Saved by the sky. I worked from bottom to top on this. First hill, quick success. 2nd ridge, quick disaster.  I added the details with Indian Red, but the wash was still too wet, so they spread into nothingness.

Added details again, paper was too dry, and they became hard edges. Went over the ridges with water, then added some indigo. Uggghhh! Went back in with more clean water to soften. Next, decided to add more of the overall color. That helped in some areas.

Debated about covering the mess in indigo. Still might. Thought that maybe a decent sky would help to save the piece. Lucked out there. So, two-thirds happy with this. Not bad.

Watercolor, gouache, Le Pen, and watercolor pencils. I also used a stamp to add texture. I wasn’t sure about posting this. A little too sappy with heart-shaped flowers. But hey, why not. I painted two more pieces, and I wasn’t sure about those either. Maybe one of them will look better to me tomorrow. Back to number one with fresh eyes, and now I can see the redeeming qualities.

Rain is due overnight and into the next couple of days. Gave me the idea for the title.

Week one is done! Went by much too fast.  Could feel that way because I have two gifts I need to finish, my brother’s wedding photos to edit, and I decided to enter a surface design competition at the last minute.

Happy creating to you all!
