L.Y.A. Side Swap #10

L.Y.A. 2016 Side swap #10. Waterlily by Sharon H. Lane,

L.Y.A. 2016 Side swap #10. Waterlily by Sharon H. Lane,

Sharon took this photo of her new pond. What an inspiration! Visit Sharon at her Twistylane. She describes herself as, among other things, a pathological picture taker. Love that.

I love this card, because it made me remember my Aunt Gloria, and her pond. I even remember when she built it. While she was distracted in one corner of the yard  my cousins and I were in the other stealing rhubarb meant for pie or jam.

We always teased her. Camping trips, even day trips to the mountains were an excuse for her to collect rocks for the pond. As a kid I didn’t think much about a bunch of ugly rocks. As an adult, I have taken on the same habit. Collecting stones or twigs or sand from my travels.

Thank you Sharon, for sharing your art with me. And for reviving childhood memories of cousins and camping in the glorious Colorado Rockies!

Number Five Has Arrived

L.Y.A. #5 "Venice" by Louise Mamet.

L.Y.A. #5 “Venice” by Louise Mamet.

What is it about Venice that is so intoxicating? I know the answer. Everything. This city is on my bucket list, along with several others in Italy.

Louise Mamet lives in France, we swapped cards last year as well. Visit her blog for more of her colorful photography, or find her on Facebook. You can also follow Louise on Instagram. Treat yourself to a look! I love your work Louise!

Kat Sloma announced today that her card is being sent out. That signals the end of the official swap. I started writing out my side swaps today. A batch will go out tomorrow, some heading overseas. I will be sending the rest out early next week.

Louise, thanks so much for sharing your photography with me.
The world is beautiful through your eyes!

L.Y.A. Side Swap #9

L.Y.A. 2016 Side Swap #9, "Build" by Sherry Harmes.

L.Y.A. 2016 Side Swap #9, “Build” by Sherry Harmes.

Sherry Harmes lives in Larsen Bay, Kodiak Island Alaska. I have swapped with Sherry before, and I always look forward to her art arriving.  For these tiny houses she used security envelopes and watercolor. On the back of the card is this:

Conceive, Believe, Achieve!!!

The building she is doing this year includes and addition, Bee, Bird, Butterfly and Bat houses. And relationships with long-lost family!  Sherry sounds like a busy bee herself!

Sherry includes the weather stats on her card, I think that is such a fun and creative detail. The temperature in Alaska was at 44 degrees, and when I received the card in Wildomar, CA. our temp was at 51 degrees. Funny to think So. Cal. was almost as cold as Alaska!

I placed Sherry’s card in something that I built (with some help), paint storage crates.

This is my lucky 13th card to arrive! Still looking for one more of the regular swap cards, and then Kat Sloma’s to close the swap. And there are more sides on their way as well!

Wishing you the very best in your busy year Sherry! Thanks so much for sharing your playful art with me!
