This week I explored a different approach to watercolor landscapes. I had a breakthrough, and will be practicing this more. The artist starts on wet paper and thinks of the whole piece. I often start mine on dry paper, and work one area at a time.
There were a couple of florals. Honestly, I couldn’t think of what to paint so I used my default. Again I was trying for a loose and sketchy looks. They fell short, but I am happy with both of them. 😉
A series of patterned abstracts brings me to mid-month and closes out the week on a bright note. I have included some close ups, the details are sometimes lost in low resolution images.
I am working on 6 x 6 paper, the coneflower is 4 x 6.

Days 8 and 12, your florals, have upbeat cheer, bright colors, simplicity, and directness. That cone flower is especially appealing. Loved hearing about your exploration of a different approach to watercolor landscapes, replete with a breakthrough—I could see a distinct difference in your three landscapes here, Sheila; days 10 and 11 have quietly sophisticated subtlety. And then, on you went to bring the week to a close with mixed media abstract watercolors using vivid color. Am I correct in thinking you superimposed digital detail on photographs of hand-painted watercolors? Very effective! You’ve showcased your versatility this week, Sheila : )
Thanks so much, Dotty! I always appreciate your detailed observations. 🙂
You are correct. The abstracts do include digital elements in addition to the watercolor.
It’s fun to combine the two. I like your take, “versatility”.
Much better than what I have been thinking, “undecided, unfocused”.
Thanks for that, it will live in my head now. xoxo 🙂
Love your artwork Sheila
Aww, thank you, Cindy. :)🙏
It is always a pleasure to see your creative journey, Sheila. Your desert-scapes are beautiful, calming and capturing the sense of spaciousness that one finds in these places. I like the color harmony of the abstract and the interesting designs.
Thank you so much Laurelle. I am so glad you enjoyed them. 🙂
We sure do miss you in the gathering.
God bless you and yours. xoxo
Lots of variety from you this month Sheila but I have to say that I like the purple ones best – super textures and design additions.
So glad you like them, Val. Thank you. They are fun to do.
I started out with a different idea in mind, but that is where the paint led me. 🙂
