Experimenting with color combinations seems to be my fall back. I watched an artist using Green Gold in her work, and I had to try it. Now I am not so sure. It seems sort of neon when scanned.  And it is  “dirty” looking if you are heavy-handed with it.

You can see in #6, at the top of the green gold, I had too much pigment on my brush. From these little experiments, I have learned I will need to mix a batch of this color, so I can be sure it is completely diluted and fully mixed.

Another color I fell in love with is Quinacridone GoldSimone Nijboer often uses it in her work, and I love how her palette pops. Turquoise, Q. Gold, Black and white. With this color I find that it scans close to neon as well. Brighter than it seems in person. And it can look a little “dirty” as well. And maybe that is not the right word.

Both Green Gold and Quinacridone Gold are intense. I might be more fond of them in smaller quantities. I do love them on the palette, and wet on the paper!

My vote goes to #2 as my fav. I guess it is the proportions as well as the colors. Haven’t tied the quic gold, but many people say it is awesome, so might have to put it on my list. Glad to see that you are staying busy. You will learn a whole lot by doing these. Are you going to write the colors on the back and put them on a ring to keep as reference? Kind of like a color chart. The neat thing over a color chart is that you get to see what colors they pop off of more so than in a color chart. You go girlfriend!!

That is an awesome idea. Ouuuuu, gave me a good idea to make small color chips. Hmmm!!! I have seen other artists with things like that. Thanks Nelvia!! 🙂

I used to do this type of experiment to figure out my colours too.I like the Quin Gold in acrylic as it is the perfect colour for many animals (like cougar, cocker spaniel etc) and really makes the fur pop!

There is a watercolor artist on Youtube that uses it for her animals. Gorgeous! You’re right, it pops 😉 I might like it even more in acrylic.

Love the first one. I’ve left my home decor fairly neutral with the exception of the main bathroom facing wall, which is this sort of neon green. It was shocking at first, but now it makes me happy all day long. I suspect it is something that attracts attention and grows on you over time. I could certainly live with a large version of #1 on my main Dining wall. Sadly some paint companies don’t put the ingredients on the tube, but Golden makes their Green Gold with a mix of PY150 PG36 and PY3 (Nickel Azo Yellow, Phthalo Green (YS) and Hansa Yellow light). Derivan Matisse makes theirs with PY74 PG36 and PY83 (Arylide Yellow, Nickel Azo Yellow, and Diarylide Yellow HR. Another strange yellow is Liqitex Turner Yellow, PY3, PY42 Hansa Yellow Light and Synthetic Iron Oxide. I’ve always found these two hard to take, but using them as ‘spice’ is probably the answer. I’m currently struggling with a landscape using touches of this color and it works well as sunlight on grass or leaves. WOW! I guess. Ok, need to take time to read and learn. Interesting. Thanks for sharing that Sea! Oh, for a large one it would be cool to add textures, or pattern. Layers of the same color. Well, I know Micheals has huge square canvas, and you can always use a 40% or even wait until they have a 60% off coupon.
I still have not painted the canvas in my room. Don’t know why it intimidates me so much. But now you have given me an idea. Ha ha ha 😉

WOW, thanks Carol. The 30 day challenge for January was cancelled. So I am just trying to keep up the habit. There will be one in September, but that is a long wait! Ha ha ha. I will try to do 30 small pieces this month.
