Second Time Around

This view is pure imagination. Still, taking a cue from Mingus, I added some horizontal marks to the dark range. I hoped to add some definition to the front range as well. I don’t know if I was successful with that. Does it look like “hills”, or just one hill? I will look again tomorrow, and see if it feels better to me.

I used the palette knife, and my fingers to apply the paint. Here is another look at the before:

Day trip to Phoenix revealed these treasures along the way. I think I shared something like this first photo during September’s painting challenge.

I also found a new cactus to love. The totem pole cactus is thorn free! How cool is that?

This looks so good Sheila. The paint you have added has created beautiful depth to the foreground and background. The tiny specks of white in the sky against the dark mountains are perfect (for me!) – love the colours you added – I think you were very successful with your paint additions – I hope you are happy with this little gem. Such great freeway art – love the ‘cacti’ and that lizard just barely showing – how can you not love art!

Wow, thanks so much Janet 🙂 I am happy with it, and ready to do more. I’m with you, as you can tell. Only an art geek would get so excited by decorated cement walls! LOL

Sheila- this is great. It looks like several hills. What I love the most is the look of many many layers. Lots of different colors coming through. I love that! And I thought you painted the cacti on the Freeway! I loved it, and thought it looked like your style. Maybe Freeway art as your next adventure?!

LOL, thanks Laurie 🙂 Wouldn’t it be fun to see your work on that large of a scale 🙂 My first sight of the Cacti on the walls DID inspire my challenge cacti paintings.
I have been admiring that style, layers of paint, for quite a while. Seeing Judith and Janet’s work made me feel like I HAD to try it. So glad you like the painting 🙂 Happy creating to you 🙂

Your painting is much more interesting with the changes and, yes, the hills in the front have more definition and look like more than one hill now.. Thanks for sharing the photos of the roadside art – very cool – and what an interesting cactus. Thanks for sharing Sheila.

Thanks Carol! Many of the cities in Phoenix decorate the barrier walls. Have fun today 🙂

Foreground says hills, or hilly, with dips and rises, with scrubby greenery, and I feel as though I’m on them, pausing to look at a distant range. Distant range says minerals, ore, rock. Sky says, “We’re all in this together.”

    Love the freeway art!
