The sunset today wasn’t grand or “ahh” inspiring. Still it caught my eye. There was a line of glowing blue along the ridge. And the clouds seemed to be that same vivid hue.

Take a look and tell me if you can see it.

Blue-Clouds

Blue clouds. SMD

I can’t get over the color in the clouds. This painting is a do over. Mostly because I want to do it better. And also, because that bit of yellow makes no sense. I wanted to capture a bit of warmth in that section of clouds. But it looks like the sun is setting there, and this view is to the east. No sense at all.

On to day eleven!

Good point Emma 🙂 Seeing it through others eyes has helped me to look at it differently. Have fun, hope you got to paint today 🙂

HI Sheila, after reading all the comments I agree about keeping this one as is. The yellow in you’re painting is the unexpected surprise that becomes the icing on the cake!

Thanks Bobbie 🙂 I still want to try again, but this one will remain unchanged. So great to hear from you – happy creating 🙂

Sheila, can I just say.. you picked a hard theme to do for 30 in 30? Wow! I really admire what you’re doing here. Painting sky has got to be one of the hardest things to do because of all the colors involved. You’re doing a great job.

The only thing I could pick out about the yellow is this..in the photo there is blue under the yellow, and in your painting there is white under the yellow. I don’t think it makes a huge difference, but I’m thinking your eye might think the yellow belongs there more if you blend it in with some blue? Just a suggestion..I think it looks great, and believable the way it is now. 🙂 We as viewers don’t know which direction you were standing..so it doesn’t matter as much to us.

ps: I’m able to post using Safari, Sheila. lol I’m laughing because Dotty can’t use Safari to post on my blog. Go figure..crazy internet!! 😀

      Hi Katie!
Yay! I hate it when computer/set stuff stops working. Very discombobulating! LOL I have been having problems with Chrome on my desktop. The operating system is so old, that they are not updating it for chorme. Or something like that. LOL.

Thanks for the kind comment, and for letting me know about the problem. I will let Randy know, and see if he can figure it out. Sorry for the inconvenience, and really sorry I am missing out on hearing from you!!

To be honest, I did not really choose a theme. Dotty Seiter suggested it, and I kinda went with it because I did not have an idea of my own. Well, to be completely honest, the idea I had did not work out. I am going to talk about that in a future post. So, I was at a loss, and bummed a bit at the beginning.

Thanks for your suggestion about the blue, I will keep it in mind when I work on the next one. I am so glad you are enjoying the skies 🙂 I feel woefully inadequate, LOL. But the experience should help me get better at them. 🙂

I am enjoying the view very much, the wide open sky seems to go on forever. Nice to not have it blocked off by a two story house next door! LOL. And the ever changing light on the hills!

Thanks again Katie for getting in touch. Stay warm, and have fun painting today! On my way to see what you have been up to 🙂

The yellow makes the other colors “sing.” The reality of the yellow in the cloud that you captured in the photograph is probably scattering of sunlight and also what might be going on in the cloud itself, just not as pronounced maybe as it might be at sunrise or sunset. Even a simple sky becomes remarkable, Sheila, when you are inspired to paint it.

Laurelle, thank you for your interpretation! There was a subtle hint of warmth there. I love the quote. Thanks so muc for sharing it with me 🙂 Hope you are creating happily – Enjoy 🙂

The blue against the mountains is lovely. I often think the lighting on the land doesn’t make sense when the sky is full of clouds – where does that highlight come from? I guess we all interpret the world in different ways. Have a great day Sheila.

That is true Val!! How can those mountains go from gold to blue in the blink of an eye? And how can there be, well too many questions. the wonder of nature I guess, and aren’t we blessed! Happy creating to you Val 🙂

Hello Jill! Yes, these are the view from my studio window. Most of them. We have hills to the north, and west as well. So glad you like them, I am really enjoying your work, as always 🙂

Awesome news Carol, thank you. Funny too, because I am feeling stuck in a rut. LOL. Sure glad it does not look like a rut. LOL

You say, the sunset today wasn’t grand or “ahh” inspiring—helLO??? Look what it inspired you to paint. *I* say, let go of no-sense-at-all. Think abstract, think invented, think inspiring, think imagined, think EYE CATCHING.

If this is a do over, as you claim, start again. DO NOT TOUCH THIS PAINTING.

Sheila, in rereading my initial comment, I’m not sure it’s entirely clear. What I want to say is Electric Blue is stunning AS IS. It does not need to “make sense” w reference to a photo or the direction of the actual mountains. It holds its own beauty.

LOL Yes Dotty!! Trying to get there. To that abstract way of thinking. My brain still wants to make sense. Well, I am starting in a new direction today, we will see what happens. Thanks for the kick in the butt Dotty! I will do a new one. Leaving this alone. I just did not catoture the blue in the sky as I had hoped. LOL, I WILL NOT TOUCH THIS PAINTING 🙂
