Well I had grand ideas, for a grand finale and what I got instead was an epic fail. So at 11:58 pm, I started over again. Almost botched this one as well. Whew!

Day 30 Epic fail. 9 x 9 in. mixed media on paper.

Day 30 Epic fail. 9 x 9 in. mixed media on paper.

Hours on my first attempt. Layers of texture, palette knife. Painted flowers. Not great. Layered more color on the background and foreground. Not better. Painted the vase. O.K., that looks really cool.

I put crackle over the petals. Waited. Very few cracks. Added a second layer, knowing full well it would not work. And it didn’t. Cracks developed in just a few areas. I rubbed on dark rust, cracks barely visible. Tried again with indigo. You can see the cracks, but now the flowers look dirty.

The scan is even worse than the original. Don’t know why but the right side looks much darker than it actually is. Tomorrow will be better!

Congratulations to the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Artists!

Congratulations Sheila on finishing another challenge! It’s the fact that we are in the studio everyday learning from our own mistakes and celebrating the small triumphs that counts for me, more than the end result….. It’s a bonus when they do work out, right? Well done!

Thank you Marcela. And for your honesty in posting work good and questionable. Yes, you are right. Keep forgetting that. LOL
Love you work Marcela, chat with you soon 🙂

They say it isn’t if you win or lose but how you play the game. You played the game really well! To continue to strive when things go wrong shows your strength and commitment to the challenge. I really like the vase and the table in your ‘botched’ piece – great depth and color choices. Why not cut them out and use them as the start of another painting – collage style. I haven’t been getting email notices about your blog so I will add my address again and check through your old posts. Take care and keep on plugging!

Awesome Idea Val 🙂 I am sorry to hear that you are not getting notices. That has happened to me with several blogs I followed. And a couple of them I keep signing up for, and still have not received posts. Thanks for trying again, and I hope you are able to receive them 🙂
Thanks so much Val for your kind and generous thoughts!

Psshaw, the only epic failure is the painting you don’t try. And see where it led you, to a beautiful flower for Day 30! I have loved following your work this month. Keep it up! 🙂

LOL, thanks so much Barb 🙂 I will, and hope you do too! I have loved your trees, watching them morph… you know that would make a great video!

We will have to nudge each other along to continue Connie 🙂 Well, we can do a series a month? LOL
So glad you like this one, as it was a last minute substitute. Whatever for you, I will be right there following along!

Sheila, your candor alone neutralizes what you call Day 30 Epic Fail! Thank you for sharing stories of your travels.

Each day’s painting, each time we pick up our brushes, is part of a bigger picture of our unique creative expression that we sometimes have trouble stepping back to appreciate. (Can you tell there’s a little self-talk going on here?!)

Love the shiny coppery feel of the foreground in “Fail;” love the warm speckled foreground in “Day 30.”

You are too kind Dotty. Yes, I can tell. And it is a comfort to know I am on the road with friends 🙂 Thanks for being a fan of my speckles and splotches 🙂

You are very hard on yourself….. look at that gorgeous table top!!!on the one you said failed…you can bring out flowers and if possible lighten the background and you have a winner…

First of all, all that brain activity as you did this, corrected that, tried that! It’s good! They say we develop new synapses when we do art. You are the synapse mother load right now!
And the painting- I LOVE the fact that it is so reflective. I see evolution in your artwork that is very cool and sophisticated. Look at that table and vase! The table looks like copper. Congrats on the challenge, Sheila- it’s been great to see your art this month. But it’s just the beginning, right?!

I hope so Laurie, just beginning. I can use all the synapses I can get! That will help with my forgetfulness 🙂 I looked that up, to make sure I had the plural right, and the first definition said, “conjunction, junction”. That song will be stuck in my head now.

Thanks Laurie for being so supportive. Evolution? Really? So nice to hear, because I feel like I was stuck, and not moving forward.
Thank you for the laughs this morning, and for the joy of your daily art. Your silly birds always get me!
