A Good Start. And not far from done. Layers. Acrylic below, watercolor on top.

Still can’t believe how fast week three went by. And here we are in the final countdown. I read that Pic Monkey is doing a revamp. Still in Beta testing so no difference yet.

DAY 26

I know I said I wouldn’t. All votes were for Day 26 being done. I took Val’s advice, and darkened the pot. But it really looks so much better in person. No harsh edges, the colors blend together nicely. Not sure if it helped to show roundness, but I do like it better. I think I went more intense, instead of darker.

I also softened some of the hard edges in the greens. Just a few areas. I added a bit more of the Sunkissed Peach to the background. Just top right, bottom left and above the pot. I reinforced the turquoise top left and bottom left. I laid the color down, then patted it off. And really, all these additions are soft and not as different from the WIP as they seem here.

Still working on the Aloe. The mid tones are not as dark as they seem here, but I am going to soften those a bit. The first layers, see below, are acrylics. I applied them with a texture sheet, the pattern, and a brayer, and a brush. The turquoise and kiwi with a brayer, for an uneven cover. The clay with a brush, to fill in the white areas that remained uncovered.

I was really tempted to stop right there. Maybe add some line work. Or a messy dab of shariz (merlot). But I knew it wasn’t done.

HA! I just realized it looks like the back-end of a carrot. I painted a carrot butt.

I was going for one of those pots that sits at an angle.

Hmm. So, to do list:

  • Tone down that neon yellow where-did-it-come-from green.
  • Add some life to the washed out, faded, bland background.
  • Maybe add more warmth to the pot.

This is mostly acrylics. The sap green is watercolor. The turquoise outline and the clay crayon marks on the pot are oil pastel.

Texture sheet (dots), plastic wrap, white paint pen, half moons, sea sponge application of turquoise and Kiwi, smeared thinned Lt. ivory, splatters. Ivory vase, wine /Lt. Ivory mix to contrast vase. (Yes, I know. Mauve. But mauve is so 80’s,  hate to say it. )  Like how the color dries, decide to use  it for the blooms. (Oh MY God.) Blooms: Layer of thin Ivory, layer of mauve quickly pulled of with paper towel. Wet centers, apply paint, hoping it will spread like day 24. It didn’t. Indigo watercolor to define.
