A Celebration of Creativity and Connection

The Creative Gathering

What a wonderful month of creativity, friendship, and inspiration! September marked another year of The Creative Gathering, and together we created and shared 511 incredible works of art. What a great way to celebrate 6 years of gathering, creating, and connecting!

Once again, our talented artists brought an amazing variety of styles, mediums, ideas, and perspectives to the gathering. From beautiful paintings & drawings to photography, mixed media, assemblage, and imaginative experiments like puppetry. Every contribution reflected a unique creative voice. What a joy it has been to see everyone’s work!

To every artist who participated, congratulations! Whether you created something every day or joined us when you were able, your contributions mattered. Every piece symbolizes time, imagination, and a willingness to explore and share your creative vision. We can all take pride in what we’ve accomplished together!

Celebrating Art, Friendship, and Connection

One of the best things about The Creative Gathering is how we encourage one another. We exchange ideas & celebrate each other’s accomplishments. We may live in different corners of the world, but our shared love of creativity brings us together. The friendships and connections we’ve made are every bit as special as the art itself.

Our Gallery Video is a celebration of all of us. It’s a chance to look back, revisit favorite pieces, and appreciate the incredible talent and individuality within our creative community.

To those who weren’t able to join us this time, you were truly missed! We hope to see you when we gather again in February 2027.

Thank you all for sharing your talents, your enthusiasm, and your friendship. You make The Creative Gathering something truly special. I’m so grateful to be part of this creative journey with you.

I was in a hurry and discombobulated the day this was created. I thought I was ahead, and had my last week complete. But when I counted again, I was three short! What? How? So I started on four pieces, and this is one of them.

I had some interesting drips as the first layer on this. But then I over poured onto another piece, and had to redistribute the color. That color, clay, obliterated the drips. OK, so what now?

With the palette knife I spread paint, made lines going this way and that. Spread more paint. Made a mess in my opinion. Trying not to panic, I made more lines with an indigo, white mix. Bummed when huge blobs occurred.

I digitally cropped from all sides, and felt better, less mess. Almost cropped out the blue on the bottom, but testing in increments, I saw that a shoreline was there. And then a map. Then a starting point and destination. All righty then. Named it far for the lines leading into the distance.

So not me, this composition. Major step out of the comfort zone!

Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art Swap

It’s begun! Woo who! For the next few weeks I will be sharing the postcards as they arrive. Can’t wait! Kat and her crew of volunteers have sorted and stamped, and the first batch is on it’s way.

As in years past, many of the participants have agreed to extra swaps, or “side” swaps. I have already received these amazing cards – YAY!

Postcard treasures

The Zentangle leaf is from Kat in the Appalachians. How did she know I have a thing for leaves? “Wonder” is from Sherry in Alaska. The wing is part of a map of Sherry’s city, how clever is that!

The snow filled trees, a photo taken in Rocky Mountain National Park, was sent by Sarah in Atlanta. I grew up in Colorado – Hello Rockies! The crane flew to me all the way from Montana. A really stunning piece of art from Amy. (I may be moving to Montana.)

Teena sent the graphic tree. It reads, ” Words are like the wind, some, stronger and more damaging than others.” Those words really resonate with me.

Amy in Montana created the wonderful crane collage. It is really super in person. You might remember I caught sight of a Heron in our backyard a few months ago.

I am amazed, how each of these cards has a special connection to me. Or I guess, I with them. Some of them I was able to choose, bet even so.
