Spoonflower Fall Leaves Contest

If you remember, in October I painted a fall leaf for the Milliande Birthday postcard swap. And if you don’t remember, that is OK. You can see it here.

My Dear friend Joan Princing had the great idea of using it for a fabric design. I did a very simple toss pattern and that is my entry in this weeks Spoonflower design contest. If you like what you see, you can vote for me. There is only one page, just click and submit.

I appreciate your support, and I thank you for taking the time!

Blackbird

Blackbird, blackbird, what do you see?
Blackbird, blackbird, are you watching me?
Blackbird, blackbird, sitting so high.
Oh how I wish, I too, could fly.
S.M.D.

I am so pleased with how this turned out. I had planned on doing a solid black silhouette, but the first wash took me in another direction. This is my first little bird. I like him so much, I am going to have a hard time gifting him for the Birthday postcard swap.

Hope you are having a super day!

Coneflowers to brighten a December day.

Humble coneflower on display,
drinking in each golden ray.
Face boldly
reaching
for the sun
Each in turn,
the healing one.

Echinacea (Coneflower) are easy to grow and very hardy. They tolerate heat and humidity and survive cold and drought. Echinacea resists most pests and diseases. These summer blooms can range from pink, white, yellow, orange, and purple. Their seed-filled cones are an irresistible treat to songbirds in the fall.

Native Americans have long used Echinacea as an antiseptic, an analgesic, and to treat poisonous insect and snake bites. It has also been used to treat toothaches and sore throat. Many swear by its ability to boost the immune system and ward off the common cold.

One more Birthday postcard I can cross off my list. This is a new technique for me, I did not get it quite right, but for a first try, this is not bad. It is an unexpected keeper!
