Back to the flowers. And more practice with the orange rocks.

I have as much fun on the sky, as I do with the flowers in these. For this sky I mixed three different blues, and I really am pleased how it turned out.  Just now noticed a floating bloom on the right, I’ll have to go in and mend that.

While unpacking, I came across a treasure from my childhood. I literally have not seen it in decades. A small handmade book of Haiku. I couldn’t help but laugh when I read my contribution.

Flowers

The flowers are in
bloom. Their colors are bright and
pretty. Pink, Blue, Red.

Guess I wasn’t as much of a tomboy as I thought. I have a sneaking suspicion the theme was a prompt. There are several flower haiku included in this prestigious volume!

Mr. Sandow put a lot of work into this. I am sure the cardboard pieces were pre-cut, and the spine is actually stitched. I do remember him screen printing the covers. Magic, that process to my 5th grade self! I am sure he had no idea that my love of art and words, and books meant that I would keep this protected all these years.

Well, maybe he does now. I found Mr. Sandow’s obituary online. He passed in 2004. He taught for over 30 years, received awards for his service. He was married for over 60 years, and served in the Army during WWII.

Rest in Peace Mr. Sandow. Thanks for being a great teacher, and encouraging creativity in your students!

Two quick studies, trying to use paint still left in my palette. Paint is a terrible thing to waste. Amazingly, I did not have to make any adjustments in Photoshop, this is exactly how the original looks. Yay Yupo!

The combination of blue and white is an old favorite of mine. Blue and anything. Just blue alone. That sounds like a title for a poem. Here is one for the tree.

Alone with myself
The trees bend to caress me
The shade hugs my heart.

As if to whisper
perhaps listen to my thoughts,
