This is alcohol inks, watercolor, and acrylic on canvas. I love the messiness. It started with just two big blobs, I had to carve out the shapes a bit, but they were all there. That is why the top “flower” doesn’t really match the others. I liked that shape, so I left it alone. I am debating taking out the leaf veins, I really like how they look in the first slide.

I have worked on this since before the challenge started. Thought I’d get a day or two ahead. HA! I think it might still need some more work. I am going to let it sit for a few days.

Leslie Saeta is our host for the painting challenge, I hope you will visit her site and browse today’s creations. Visit Sea Dean to post your daily painting, or to vote on those posted. Prizes for the most active artist, AND the most active voter. You can vote for three artists each day. That includes me, of course.

I just now noticed how strong the texture from the canvas is in these slides. It is not distracting in person.

Artist Cindy Williams is featuring artist interviews this month – and today is my day! Hope you will hop on over to her blog to take a look!

Honestly, I love it just the way it is..it almost looks unfinished, BUT..that’s just perfect for this piece, imo. I’d leave it with the unfinished look, if I was you. It’s actually a trick many artists use..leaving the piece slightly unfinished, and I think you did it well. Not everyone does.

You made me laugh, thanks Katie! So glad you like it. So I used a trick, and didn’t even know it. But I am so glad you said something!I will have to try and remember how NOT to do it again. hahaha

Sheila this turned out so well. After some thought I think you may be right that the lines in the leaves are less in coherence with the other leaves. I like how the block with circles anchors the painting. You have been very busy!

Thanks so much Susan 🙂 I have it propped up, I’ll live with it a few days and see. Thanks for letting me know what you think!

I like this a lot. I am searching within for meaning to abstract art and why it isn’t my favorite. This piece touches me more than your abstracts; I can identify with it and see what it represents. I am asking artists, and hopefully some collectors, why they choose to paint, or love, or purchase certain pieces of art. My February newsletter will be on this topic. Please give me your feelings on the subject.

Abstract is not my favorite either Carol. Having said that, I look at my inspiration board… and there are abstracts that I just love posted on it. I lean towards “representational” abstracts. Those that might be a landscape, or a flower bud. I can appreciate the work that goes into abstract art. How artists create a mood, or feeling, depth or balance. What draws me to a piece, is how it makes me feel.

As for my work, I am trying to learn how to loosen up, and abstract lends itself to that. There are many styles I would like to be able to work in. I am sure you know what I mean Carol 🙂
