Wind blows cold, alone
they stand, branches reach as if
they are holding hands.

We made it! High fives all around! Yes, that means everyone who took Leslie’s challenge, even if you did not post everyday, or produce a full 30 paintings. Effort counts!

My painting today is another save. Actually I think I started three different times on this canvas. It has been sitting for months in between.

There is a grungy black, mucky mix as the base. I had too much turquoise from a piece I was working on the other day. Can’t waste paint. So I spread it on the canvas with a palette knife. I let it dry a bit, and then made scratch marks. I just now am realizing, I maybe should delineate the trunks that are overlapping.

I started the trunks by dripping paint, for a random placement. Then went back with a brush to add width to them.  The branches and trunks wrap around the sides and top.

Tomorrow all the participants will post a collage of their work. Today, I would like to share the collections I have from this month. There are also some odds and ends, I’ll show those tomorrow in the collage.

That is so kind of you Joan. I have enjoyed seeing your work as well, and voted for you many times in Sea’s party 🙂 I am still catching up on visiting sites. I had time to vote, but not always to visit and comment. Best of luck to you in the art party 🙂

OMG! I love your grand finale! And the Collections look so great as such! What do you mean delete overlapping trunks? It looks perfect as is. My my, “Idle” is a stout little fellow isn’t he? I was surprised to see the stature of this painting! LOL. I think you should try this one really BIG!

I love your collections. The only one that left me a little cold was Feme. Maybe that was the intent or maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough to understand or appreciate it yet. 😀 Lollipops, Trees & Flowers and Friends were my favs. Your work has a subtle whimsical simplicity and a closeness that draws me right in, and I really like that. Thank you so so much for your many many gifts, Sheila! xo SS

Maybe I am not sophisticated enough to pull it off Sandy! ha ha ha I like the lily, and the first form. Tried to recreate that but it didn’t quite work out. Thanks so much for the gift of your friendship, and honesty! I do have a huge canvas tucked under my bed, and these colors are in my duvet… so I am thinking I need to do it large too!

Well done! I like the trees the way they are without detailing where they cross each other. Such a small canvas! Are we really supposed to make a collage of our work and post it? I don’t know how so I might skip that part.

This is a lovely painting, Sheila. I can never see birch trees without thinking of one of my favorite poems, Robert Frost’s “Swinger of Birches” – are you familiar with it?
