Our first Christmas eve in Arizona was gorgeous! A day we won’t soon forget. It was my brother and his wife’s first Christmas together. And her first time seeing snow. Beautiful HUGE fluffy flakes. The flakes became larger the longer it snowed.

Sunset was heavenly. Take a look.

I completely missed the mark on what I was trying to do with this painting. Working wet on wet, to create soft flowing colors in the sky. My first washes did flow together nicely. I just went over board with the clouds.

Even so, I really like the almost 3-D effect I accidentally created in the clouds. My apologies for the terrible photo. I couldn’t get the scan to show true. There is a bit of soft blue on the hills, and field. Not showing well here.

I framed this and gifted it to my bother and his wife. Merry first Christmas!

Only four days until Leslie’s January 30 Paintings In 30 Days painting challenge begins!

Mouse2

I collect mice. Childhood nickname is mouse… because I chose a slice of cheese over cookies and pie when I was small. I have them displayed for the first time in years. Here is a peek at a few of them for you.

Took part in Pauline Agnew’s Christmas Open Studio. These free two-day events a meant to awaken and rejuvenate. Video instruction, student art showcase, and the Facebook group offer inspiration and feedback. Pauline often offers prize drawings to participants. This year she is going all out and offering 12 free spots in her e-courses!! Follow the link to find out more, and be sure to subscribe to receive information about future Open Studios.

Pauline worked in inks. She started by laying down the large shapes with tinted water, and then continued, working quickly with very wet media. I worked in watercolor. This is larger than I usually work. I was standing, and held my brush differently. I used a reference photo and tried to see shapes, and not a praying angel. A quick sketch, a liberating exercise and the opportunity to learn from Pauline Agnew! Great way to spend the day!

The first Open Studio I participated in produced one of my best pieces. Pauline has a way of doing that! Each event is a wealth of information!
