After posting yesterday, I realized I needed to deepen the color of the 2nd ridge near the bottom. My thought was confirmed by Val in her comment. (Thanks Val!)  And reinforced again when I looked at the painting in Photoshop. I desaturated (took out the color) the image, and sure enough. The values were all pretty much the same. I needed more contrast.

Here’s the before.

I have better value contrast now. I also added deeper color to some of the ridgelines. Not sure if that addition was an improvement. But leaving it as is, calling it done.

I set up four small canvas. Ready and waiting. I procrastinated. Delayed. Cleaned the closet. Folded clothes. Researched abstract art. (More delay.) Didn’t start painting until after dark.

Funny how intimidating a tiny canvas can be. I started laying down color with a palette knife. I finished two, and still had paint on the palette so I continued. Now there are four starts, five including the green canvas from earlier in the week. Here is a look at two of them.

We are always learning, right? Yes, the value thing is where we all get in trouble sometimes. But you figured it out, and it looks great! I love the 4×4 idea, too. You make me laugh, Sheila-cleaned the closet, folded clothes, etc…so funny! That’s what I do when I am supposed to be working out. In fact, I have driven around and around the gym before, only to end up in a CVS for some Twizzlers! Oh, life-isn’t it grand!

LOL I am cracking up Laurie! Been sitting here trying to ignore my craving for a Kit Kat. Now you’ve made me think of Swedish Fish. LOL Well, that is not so bad, Twizzlers are one of the lower calorie candies… I think. Working on those 4 x 4’s… think I might have a couple… somethings. Enjoy!

Glad my comment helped Sheila. I like the changes you made to South Range and I agree – it is done! You are going to have fun with those canvases – you can leave them as they are or turn them into abstract scenes with a few more strokes.

I love the second version, the fact that colors have been deepened gives a nice perspective and if I may say so, adds volume… Am not a painting expert, Sheila ?. My eye was attracted towards the WIP, nice colors…

Sheila, your revision of SOUTH RANGE adds depth and softness. Very effective.

And I’m so excited about your 4×4’s! Now I’m on the receiving end of starts, not knowing where they’ll go. Definitely fun!

Really love your experimentation with the acrylics.. really loose and spontaneous. If you are thinking of covering it with indigo try it out in PS.first. I like it as it is.
