Postcard Preference

Time for me to decide which postcard I will send to the Visual Aids 17th ANNUAL POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE exhibition.  I need your help, because I have six favorites and I can only send one card.

I just finished these two. They may seem totally unrelated. I have wanted to paint a tree in our neighbors back yard. It just glows all day long. It is taller than the rest of the trees, and it even seems to glow when the sky is grey and the sun is hidden.

I spoke with a friend in Montana the same day I painted this tree. It was snowing sideways, the winds were so strong. I started this next one as an abstract, trying to use some leftover paint. Obviously blustery was on my mind.

I actually think I like it better upside down. What do you think? I can see a hint of tall mountains, maybe a lake in the distance.

Here they all are together. No particular order.

If you have time, let me know in the comments which you like best.

There is so much for me to be thankful for. I hope for you as well. I know I am thankful for all of you who follow my blog, and who take the time to comment. Your participation is a true blessing!

Happy Thanksgiving!

God Bless!

I’m up! Thought it was the server. Instead it was city repairs that had the connection down. Hallelujah AMEN! That’s a big thanks to God. And to my computer guru Randy. He worked all night trying to get everything back online.

Thank You Randy!

I posted this earlier on Google+ and Facebook. It is a subtractive painting. The vase and large flowers are the first layer, a mix of red and blue. I let the paint mix on the canvas so it would be uneven. I carved out those shapes by adding a layer of white.

I added pattern to the table and vase, and more flowers. I used watercolor to add variation to some of the large buds, and to the leaves.

I almost didn’t to gift this. It didn’t turn out the way I was hoping. I know the reason, and what I can do to make the next one better. I looked at it for a couple of days, and decided that I really liked it in spite of knowing its “flaws”. My flaws as a painter.

It was for a good friend, she loves purple. She really loved it when she saw it. That’s all that matters!

Abstract or Awful?

This has so many layers of acrylic, it feels like an old piece of leather. Hmm… maybe that would be good for making some Christmas ornaments. Trying to stay on the sunny side, because I can’t decide if I pulled this out of the round file, or if I am a dope for posting it.

The tools this time were half of a Popsicle stick, and a palette knife. I started with a warm palette, made a mess of it all and then buried the evidence in blue, green and bisque. The single dark line on the right keeps catching my eye. I think I need to scrape some paint over it and rough it up a bit.

I couldn’t think of a name for this. I my change it if I submit this to Visual Aids 17th ANNUAL POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE. Last night Hunger Games was on. I am really looking forward to the third installment of this series. I want to see President Snow get his butt bruised. Probably won’t happen until Part 2, but the previews look good.

Happy Monday all! May the odds be ever in your favor!
