Some days the light turns the fields so bright that they seem to be glowing. Other times the hills seem to vibrate with a warm earthy pink. Very happy with this one. Closer to the vision that was gnawing at me.

Monday was our Thanksgiving due to work schedules. I had to wait to paint until everyone else was in bed. My brother was trying to think of a Thanksgiving song. None of us could. I thought of Over the River.  I remember the Peanuts gang singing it. But the full version is clearly for Christmas.

Here are a few more I found.

Do you know any Thanksgiving day songs?

And another rule bites the dust!. I was telling some of my art students last week that to show perspective in a landscape painting the distance items need to be lighter in tone but, at an art show this weekend a number of the pieces had very dark backgrounds and here you are doing the same thing. I guess you can break the rules but you have to know them first – lol.

Well, I am not sure I know how to use them Val. LOL. Still so much to learn and practice. Or maybe I should say I know the rules, but sometimes have a hard time executing them correctly. You are absolutely right of course! But if you have seen some of my photos of Mingus, the mountain in the distance is often a deep blue or green, and the front range is lighter. Part of what facinates me about the light on the hills.

Sheila, love the colors, love the softnesses, love the shapes and shadows. Happy for you that you came closer to the vision that was gnawing at you.

Don’t know the title of these hymns and no time to look them up at the moment, but from my earliest childhood I remember “We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing” and “Come, ye thankful people, come.”
