Toil and Trouble

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

When I was in high school, I shocked a friend by knowing the word cauldron. We were playing Pictionary. He drew the picture, and announced to the group, “She’ll never get this one!”

I blurted out the answer, Roger’s jaw dropped, and everyone had a good laugh. I have a fondness for the word cauldron. It reminds me of good friends.

I have painted regularly since the end of the September challenge. A whole lotta’ toil and trouble with nothing, not even a frog toe to show. I reclaimed several small canvases, only to cover them up with mud and muck. Time for more gesso. And more practice painting with a palette knife.

While I was watching an online class on Photoshop, I started goofing with some paint. It was a beginners class, and much of it I knew.

So this is just a bit of play…

    I like that you are still painting. Good for you Sheila. I haven’t done much painting this month either, compared to last month. I’ve enjoyed my time away from it with no feelings of remorse. I think in art, there is always an ebb and flow and if we are constantly feeling pressure to create it hinders us more than it accomplishes. I find a short vacation from painting is always good for the creative soul. I always remember some words of wisdom from my sister when I broke my ankle, “We are human beings, not human doings”. 😀

      That is an awesome quote Sandy, your sister Rocks! I did take a bit of a break, from blogging. I am glad to hear you enjoyed a painting break. I know you were busy with your studio show, that is quite an achievement. OK, I am going to take a painting break. And I will try to do as you do, and have no guilt about it. :-/

        Well, I have started painting a little bit now towards the end of the month, but I am under no pressure to do it everyday. Instead, I am spending more time enjoying my home, family, friends, fur babies and our beautiful fall season. Don’t feel guilty about anything, Sheila. It’s not living in the moment and it’s not worth it! Hugs, Sandy

    This looks like Patchwork fields you see in France. Now I know you have been there! This is lovely. Oh and dear sis, I know a lot about scraping, sanding, gessoing and even where the garbage can is.

      I fly over fields in my dreams :-.) Thanks Carol, I had a good laugh! Guess I am paying my dues as a member of the mud and muck club! 🙂

      Best of luck with your landscape Sue! I can’t wait to see it 🙂 Maybe it is some sort of Halloween curse, and we will both have an amazingly productive November 🙂 Fingers crossed 🙂
