My painting for today counts as a good save. I wasn’t happy with the washed in sky and ocean. I didn’t think to take a photo, but the colors were just too soft. Wishy washy.

I decided I could not possibly make it any worse, and I laid in colors that were left on my palette. It still wasn’t quite right.

Before digital rendering.

Before digital rendering.

I was careful not to wash out the palm fronds, but that left too much “white” area. So I went in digitally and tightened that up.

Much better don’t you think? I love how the background turned out. The tree is iffy. Maybe if I go back in with more color, I can make that better. Over all, I am happy with how this turned out.

Leslie reminded us that this challenge is not about creating perfection every day. It is about developing the habit of painting everyday, getting in the “zone” and learning from our experiences. It is a reminder I needed. Looking at all the amazing art that is being created, I start to feel like I need to be amazing every day too.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Enjoy your day!

I second that — I like what you did with the background. The colors are so pretty and very calming. And the palms are so whispery . I am so very glad that Leslie emphasizes to have fun and try to master painting every day. I haven’t been able to paint daily…so I just threw in a few paintings that I had painted before the challenge because I truly didn’t want to leave an empty day. I told my husband that I am going to host (in my mind.) a challenge for myself to paint daily in February. I hope I can do it! Enjoy Day #24.

That is a great idea Joan! I wish you the very best, and I know you can do it. Her post on that was perfect timing. Have a super weekend Joan!

I agree with Leslie concerning perfection. I have always believed that if one sets the goal at perfection , one is setting himself/herself up for failure. Striving to do your best is as close to perfection as one can get. (improving your best with time, practice, and experience)
    I like the palm…

Glad you like the palm 🙂 It is an ongoing struggle I think for artists. Materials are so expensive, you want every work to be good. But each stroke has a will of its own. Enjoy your day Dad 🙂
