This design is actually three patterns in one. The background is based on the seed shapes. A touch of texture. This is a simple filter in Photoshop, but getting the seams to match was almost impossible. Pin-wheel leaves are a half-drop pattern, meant to mimic latticework. And the poms are a basic toss. Far more difficult than it seems. I actually was up all night trying to get them to work. More out of stubbornness, and the wish to learn what it is I don’t know.

And on top of all that. There is one GLARING error in my design. I knew it, meant to fix it. And missed it in all the edits. UGHH! But it is OK. I can upload the revision as soon as the contest is over. I am curious to see if any of the designers will even notice. (I am betting not.)

Spoonflower’s challenge this week – Whimsical Watercolor Fruit. I painted the pomegranate pieces for an earlier design that was never uploaded to the Spoonflower site. So glad to have the chance to use them.

May design challenges are sponsored by Skillshare.  Skillshare is an amazing an online learning community where anyone can discover, take, or even teach a class.

The top winners each week will take home Spoonflower credit and a Skillshare Premium subscription to start learning everything from how to create a surface design using motifs to “The Basics of Photoshop”, “Hand Lettering” and so much more! All submissions into May’s design challenges are automatically entered to win the grand prize full of design goodies worth over $1000!

A super opportunity, and why I am so grateful for your vote!

I did a few mock-ups just for fun.

Thanks so much for voting!

Last week your votes got me to #83, with 83 votes, out of 415 entries!!! Thank you!!! To get into the top ten, I would have needed 171 votes. Number one received 219 votes. Splatter stripe has 38 “favorite’s”, makes it my #1 most favorited design! Want to see the winners?

Share this post with friends! Just one or two will do! Doubling the number of votes would just get me to the top ten. If all my Google+ followers voted, I would easily make it to top ten. This week there are 422 entries.

I so appreciate your help!  Enjoy your day, and thanks for taking a look!

Laura Hollick’s International Soul Art Day takes place on May 25th. This will mark my fifth year participating. It is an all day virtual event. Laura guides you through a thought-provoking journey, to help you connect to spirit and insights.

Ready for a day of fun? Open to everyone, you can join in as your schedule allows. Choose a favorite medium, or try a new one. It is empowering to know that you are connected with so many kindred spirits. Thriving in the energy that is artistic expression.

A couple of days ago I decided to clean out my stored artworks. I am recycling what I can. Six boards of different sizes are gessoed and ready to go. Twenty 6 x 6 pieces of Yupo are washed and standing by.  I even “washed” pieces of Arches. I figure that I can gesso them as well. So I guess I am ready for Soul Art. Don’t you find it interesting that the thought came to me, just before the invitation did?

I hope you will consider taking part in this creative cluster. Visit the link above for a short video introduction. Click on the images for a look back at my Soul Art Experiences.

Splatter stripe has been “favorited” by many of the designers on Spoonflower. A few that I really admire as well. (Very cool!)  I am going to take that as a good sign. Fingers crossed!  Still a few more days to vote!

Happy weekend everyone!

This week Spoonflower’s Design challenge is for an Abstract Whimsical Watercolor. My original idea turned out to be a very complicated repeat. I just could not get the design to work as a seamless pattern. I saved the file, so I can continue to work on it. Do some research maybe, and find a solution.

On top of that, the abstract watercolor was not cooperating. Ughh! So I switched gears, and selected a watercolor piece I created a couple of years ago. I was down to the wire, had about an hour and a half to complete a design and upload it to the site. A stripe seemed the quick solution. It also seemed to fit the summer feeling these colors gave me. Click on the image above for a closer look.

I have a collection started. I need to upload the designs, but here is a peek. I started thinking the design might lend itself to quilting projects. Seaside cottage or nautical. That gave me the idea to do a cheater quilt. More on that later.

Christine Brooks LYA 2017 side swap. Painted on wood, with USA stamp.

So happy to receive this wonderful postcard from Christine Brooks. The piece is painted on wood and includes a postage stamp as part of the art. The texture is really wonderful. I just love it! Christine lives in Flagstaff. Just a hop north of here, an hour and a half. She is also taking part in the current round of Love Notes Postcard swap.

Thanks so much Christine for surprising me with this side swap extra! It is a treasure!
