The hand of the student still grips tightly. I know it is the small size I am working in that limits flings and flourishes. I discovered the cupboard is bare, no more paper in there. Until I make a trip for supplies, small it is.

Busy day today, this will have to do for Day 9. Caught up in mid-tones. Blah, blah, bland.

Have an awesome day y’all!

Visit Leslie’s site  for tons of non-bland art!

I need to start working on a set of postcards for Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap. This is the third time I have participated, and it will be here before I know it.

I really had fun with this one. It was pretty simple. I thought it would be quicker, and maybe that means I overworked it. I am pleased with the result.

The loose hand still needs work. I debated about adding some pen work, but decided that would defeat my intention.

I reworked the painting I did yesterday. I had the vase sitting on the edge of the table and ready to fall off. Now it is firmly planted. I did not go higher with the edge, because it would have come too close the base of the flowers. I needed to maintain a little breathing room. Next time I will make the vase taller, and perhaps angle the table edge.

I was able to do this, because I was adding to the dark area. I went in with a damp brush, and lifted the hard edge, “erasing” the line I had created. Then I went in with more of the dark mixture. I had that ready before  I started lifting. I had to go over the entire area again to avoid unwanted lines or blooms. As you can see there is a lot more dark, as well as added texture. I really love how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by!

Working on my looseness. Another unsuccessful attempt. There should be more of a balance between hard and soft edges. Still I think this is a good painting. My Base is a little too dark, and it looks as if the vase is on the edge of the table. As a learning experience, this gets A.

I did manage to refrain from adding too much detail. I think I have just enough to suggest the individual petals. Good shadows, and shading on the vase. I would put this in a frame.

I may try this one again for tomorrow. Try to get more of it right, and less of it wrong.

I really do hope you have taken some time to visit Leslie’s art challenge. There are so many talented artists taking part. Beautiful, beautiful work to view. Stay warm out there!
