These are a mix of acrylic and watercolor. Layers of color and patterns. Hoping to build more depth and detail. I went small thinking I would finish more quickly. But I put in just as much time as I have been on the larger paintings. I was having fun 🙂

I may add to these. Step back and return with fresh eyes. The sky in #16 is messy. For the last layer, I scribbled with Neocolors and then carefully wet, and moved the paint around. The last sky, #19 is relatively clean. You can see the progression from first to last.

I have noticed on Instagram that there are several #100 participants that have fallen behind. I am not following all of those taking part, so it is safe to assume there may be more. This was the third week. Interesting to me, because it is always the third week in the 30 day challenges that is the hardest. And they say it takes three weeks to form a new habit. Hmm. Well turns out, that isn’t really true.
Love that you are getting bigger! Love all the layering and textures! Love all your messes!

Thank you Val 😉 I think that is my favorite as well. It is more organic. The forms and the colors. The first two have that loose quality I admire in other artists. And so often fail to achieve in my work. Thanks for following the #100DaysOfMingus Val 😉
Sheila, your #100DayProject impresses and fascinates me. I don’t think I’ve ever painted the ‘same’ thing or even stayed with a single theme for more than a few days, and I’m enjoying the vicarious ride through your Mingus series, intrigued by your explorations.
#16—I like the ‘messy’ sky and the way it showers its colors onto the back range. I like both ranges here; they have an organic, natural feel.
#17—Love the colors and subtle textural surprises available for discovery in the sky, the shower pouring itself down on one patch of mountain, the scatter of scrub brush on the front range.
#18—That dark back range: pulls me in. Love its quiet variegation.
#19—Love the vertical striations, the indigo and texture in the back range, the story in the sky.
