 MAPS AND RECIPES

Twenty twelve seems to have been my year of recipes and maps. I hadn’t started blogging yet. In addition to that, I wrote over 30 articles on wellness for Examiner.com. I had hoped it would generate extra income. The site no longer exists, so you can tell how that went. I think I received a small check, once. For each article, I created artwork as well.

I am sure that the experience of writing and posting for Examiner, gave me the courage to create my site. To start writing about my art. Stepping stones.

I’ve spent the last few days cleaning my computer files, and in doing that I revisited the past. You are right, seems to be a theme starting. I realized that I have never posted the maps and recipes here, naturally. And if this blog is a record of my journey, it would be incomplete without them. Adding a new gallery page takes care of that. Take a peek, and visit the site links on the page to see a HUGE view. Thanks for looking!

My Values Aren’t Showing

Tempted to call this a work in progress. Have a try at improving it. I enjoyed the process, but I was not entirely successful. My foreground is  not “fore” enough, and my shadows could use some tweaking.

This is from a photo taken at the Chapel of the Cross in Sedona. A day trip with my recent visitors. This grouping was at the bottom of the hill, beneath the Chapel. I was so in love with the purple prickly pears, I didn’t even notice the nopales heart. Did you notice?

Have you ever eaten prickly pear or nopales? My good friend Naomi makes nopales like her grandmother’s. With hamburger and red chili. Very tasty side dish. I would love to try prickly pear.

Something is not quite right. Just couldn’t figure it out. So I took a look at the desaturated image. Hmm, that might be the answer. Now, how to fix it. I will think on it a day or two. Suggestions are always welcome.

They Draw and Cook has introduced a feature called FEAST. Along with showcasing amazing illustrated recipes, they now include food related designs. Patterns, posters, anything “foodie”. How fun is that!

These are two designs from when I started in surface design. They are still among my favorites. Click on the image to see them on TDAC. Leave a comment and let me know you stopped by! While on TDAC, if you click on my name, you can see all of my recipe illustrations.

Art Feature On They Draw And Cook

Sometimes Stolen Salad

June 2012

Sometimes Stolen Salad
is 1 of 6 recipes in the Featured Collection
on They Draw & Cook’s main jumbotron.
The collection is called
“The Perfect Pear!”

and will be featured from
March 30 to April 6.

This is one of the first pieces of art I shared publicly. I hadn’t even started blogging at that point. I had so much fun working on this, it allowed me to combine my love of watercolor and graphic design. Still one of my favorite pieces!

Do you love to cook? I bet you love to eat!  Ready to try something new? If you have never visited the TDAC site, you really need to check it out. You can search for recipes by food, or use their Dial-A-Dinner if you are in the mood for some culinary roulette!

Artists are welcome to submit designs, sign up for their blog or newsletter!

Still a couple of days to vote
in the Spoonflower
Southwest Baby Bedding Contest!

Farm fresh vegetables flourish and fly.
I love to eat my vegetables, I cannot tell a lie.

This is for the Spoonflower Farmers Market design challenge. I recycled art from earlier projects. All were done in watercolor. Hope you like it, I had fun painting them, and it was fun to work with them again. If you are interested in voting, you can until Tuesday, June 18th.
