L.Y.A. Side swap #18 Siobhan Wolf.

This lovely postcard arrived, from Siobhan Wolf. She tells me this is how a typical Ohio Spring looks. Brrrr! We have swapped in years past, and I find the connection as joyful as she does. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful photography with me Siobhan! Those tulips are so pretty – I love it!

Header Help

Kat van Rooyen, Zentangle – Diva Dance:Rock and Roll.

This weekend I worked on some graphics for my good friend Kat van Rooyen. She a had digital disaster, and had to start her blog over again on a new platform. Kat does Zentangle art, so we used a pattern she loves. To the right is the art she sent me. I had to add more flowers to the bottom to create the shape I wanted.

I selected fonts that reflected Kat’s personality, and her art. Zentangle is based on structured patterns. The line work is often very graphic and bold.

I did two versions of the header. One with a border, and one without. Kat can interchange these when she changes page colors on her blog. For holidays or special events. Below is the completed Header. Visit Kat’s site for a better look. I also created a triangle pattern for the background, which is barely visible, but I think it adds some interest.

 Bookmarks

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was submitting a bookmark to UPPERCASE magazine. I didn’t make the cut, but my submission is included with the almost 300 entries. They are available to download for personal use. Please respect the copyright of the artists. I thank you, as does Janine Vangool.  How fun is that! If you have never seen uppercase magazine, you need to check it out! Visit the blog and Flip through the new issue. Gorgeous! And if you print some bookmarks, why not stop by and tell Janine, “Thanks”.

A Doodle

Again I was inspired by one of the postcards I received. I showed you a card from Lynn Radford yesterday, the one with the colored pencils on it.  Made me want to grab the pencils next to me and put color to paper. This is just a teeny ATC, only took a few minutes. Just a bit of fun!

I could have posted this morning. I didn’t want to “cheat” by using a revision. But I spent a lot of time reworking this, and I finally just decided, it’s the work that counts.

I had the idea of going darker on the background, and thanks to Val’s 2nd of that notion, I went ahead with it. I am happy with the result.

Well, I wasn’t happy with it at first, so I tried to add a stem….

After seeing the result on-screen, (and trying three times to make it work) I decided it was better without. I am really enjoying working on this Aquabord. I have two that I botched watercolors on. I took off the paint, and because the board was stained, I spread a thin layer of white acrylic over the surface. It’s allowed me to add and remove many layers of watercolor. Fun, and interesting!

2016 INKed Calendar

I received my 2016 INKed Calendar today! I know I am a geek… but it’s so exciting seeing my work in print! INKed is a Facebook group, founded by Vicky Pratt, Katrin Dreiling and Diane McWhirter. The group is dedicated to encouraging and supporting artists and lovers of art.

I can’t really remember how I got into the group, but I am sure it stems from an invitation, and a meeting through the L.Y.A. postcard exchange. I feel like a bit of a cheat being in the group, because I do not work in ink primarily.  That much more of an honor to be a small part of this hugely talented group! I really admire these artists! You can see some of their work here.

I am “Miss December”. The two other pieces I submitted are co-featured (side column) on other months. I am certain I shared them with you before, but that is part of my “missing” September, so here they are again. Thanks Diane, Vicky and Katrin for your hard work putting it together!

Caught up – 30 In 30

Day 4, 5, 6, and 7

So much for getting ahead. Maybe next time I will use 3 or 4 layers, instead of 158.  Just kidding. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go light, or dark for the final pieces.

This little series is based on the themes of love and the human condition. I am going to submit artwork to be published in Bradford G. Wheler’s book – LOVE SAYINGS: wit & wisdom of romance, courtship, and marriage.

For “LOVE SAYINGS” he is looking for original artwork and photography that in some way relates to love and the human condition. Artists who would like to be considered can sign up at bookcollaborative.com.

I have paintings in two of Brad’s earlier books. You can see them here, and here.

I haven’t decided on titles for these yet. Any ideas? Home is where the heart is, love on the rocks, heart of mine. Love grows (where my Rosemary goes). I always think in song or movie titles.

I will be painting more on this theme. But I think, it is time for some watercolor.

It’s too bad the copper does not show more in the photos, it looks great, just bits here and there that catch the light. Today was a good day! Six of my fabric designs sold today at Spoonflower! Woo Whoo!

Tons of amazing art to be seen!
