I thought I was done, turns out I wasn’t. Below you can see the first two sessions. A short GIF. The colors in this were difficult to show true. It is not pink, but mauve. And the mauve is evenly distributed from left to right, (you can see below, but it is showing darker than it is) Also, the streaking is not as prominent in person.

First two sessions.

First two sessions.

In the second session, I noticed I had some “holes”. Bare spots. I added more white. Something was still off so next I added sand. And finally more of the clay color. Better.

The soft tones are very calming to me. The darks add a nice pop of contrast. I love that the texture of the canvas is showing. It catches the paint off the palette knife in a nice pattern.

This isn’t the painting I intended to post today. At the top of my blog page I tell you that I will even share my failures here. I will share the fiasco I worked on today. I am going to try again tomorrow. Hoping that I will have a good painting to show along with the ugly.

Happy creating to you!

It shows Mauve on my screen, Sheila, and the colors are soft and calming. But YOU are soft and calming. So supportive, enthusiastic, and humbled. I love your sharing of what you call the failures or “bad” ones. I think I would need more than 30 in 30! Anyways, thank you for sharing your art and yourself.

I’m of the belief that there are no “uglies” just things that didn’t turn out as first imagined. I find I learn something in everything I do. I do know what you mean about the frustration of photographing something painted into a digital image…the colors don’t always translate very well. And then, even if it looks okay on your own computer screen, you have no way of knowing how it will look on other devices. But such is Life! Love your soft colors.

You are right Linda. I did learn from the painting, so it was not a waste of time. I am finding there is such a difference in how a watercolor scans, and how acrylic on cavas scans. It’s really very interesting. Have fun today Linda. The end is getting closer 🙂

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most of the time i don’t ‘get’ abstracts – even the ones I do myself – are there rules or just doing whatever? It comes down to doing them because you enjoy it Sheila – the rest is just a bonus!

That is a good question Val! Maybe trying to understand abstract is a mistake. Maybe there is nothing to “get”. Still figuring that out as well. Enjoy your creative time today Val. Look forward to seeing your work 🙂

Thanks Jill 🙂 I wish I could post more there, but many of the link up links lead nowhere. Part of why I pin is to give the artists more exposure, but if people can’t find out more information from the pin, it doesn’t help the artist at all.

First, this turned out just super. Thanks for talking through the thought process and how you evaluated it. Great lesson. Remember we have to do 10 paintings before we get the 1 that really works. And as I have been told, sometimes the ones were think were total losses are the ones that other relate to and love the most. Can’t wait to see it now!!

Love being invited into your studio every day (speaking of which, what IS your set-up in your new living quarters?). Love these new adventures with abstract acrylics on gallery wrapped 4×4″ canvases. Keep ’em comin’.

Thank you Dotty 🙂 Still working on the set up. My desk is in front of the window, shelves next to it on the same wall. Parallel. I miss having them perpendicular to the desk, I had more storage close at hand that way. And the printer was within reach. Now it sits under the desk, and I really need to find a better place for it.

LOL, thanks Carol 🙂 I feel unsure about these. I like them, I just need to learn more about abstracts. So glad you like it 🙂 More on the way…
